Volunteer Opportunities

Here are a few of the volunteer opportunities available at Riverview Health Centre.

Patient Services:

Special Events

You may be interested in volunteering at the many special events, such as barbecues and holiday celebrations, that are held throughout the year at Riverview. Volunteers assist with transporting residents and patients to and from the event location, set up and cleanup of the event, serving food and visiting with the participants.

Unit Activities

At Riverview, volunteers may be assigned to a unit to interact directly with residents and patients. In this role, you may assist with structured activities that are organized by the Recreation Facilitators, or you may engage in one-on-one visits with residents and patients.

Similar opportunities are available to work with clients in the Centre’s community-based programs: the Day Hospital and the Rendezvous Club. Tasks may include serving refreshments and assisting staff with recreation activities.

Dining Assistant

If you volunteer as a dining assistant, you will be able to help make the meal experience enjoyable for patients and residents. Duties include assisting people to the dining room, passing out trays, opening packages and containers, providing encouragement to diners and visiting during the meal time. Training is provided.

Pet Visitation

As an animal lover and owner, you might want to consider bringing your pet to Riverview to visit with patients and residents. Pet volunteers are matched with a specific unit to offer supervised pet visits. There is nothing as satisfying as seeing the happiness that pets can bring to people!

As the pet’s owner, you are required to submit the most recent vaccination report and ensure that your pet is well behaved and comfortable around people.

Gift Shop Volunteer

Are you interested in gaining retail experience? If so, consider volunteering at Riverview Health Centre’s Gift Shop. Duties include offering friendly customer service, operating the cash register and handling cash. All volunteers are trained for these duties, so no experience is necessary.

There is also a role for volunteers in the Gift Shop’s office to assist with managing inventory, entering computer data and stocking the Shop with merchandise.

The Gift Shop is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

Did You Know?

All revenues from the Gift Shop are donated to Riverview Health Centre to enhance the lives of patients and residents.
