Money raised by the Foundation also funds state-of-the-art equipment, like our non-intrusive bladder scanner, that helps improve the quality of care for patients and residents. Funds raised are also directed towards entertainment for our residents, training for staff and building renovations that are needed over time. In short, we fund the environmental needs and supports for those who call Riverview home as they are too unwell to live on their own.

We’re able to provide funds for what isn’t covered through government funding, but which still makes a meaningful difference in the day-to-day lives of those in care at Riverview.

We provide monetary support through donations, bequests and fundraising events for specialized services that promote health, recovery and well-being for patients and residents.

Building Community

We connect with the broader community to raise funds for the Centre to provide the best in medical and daily care within a welcoming, community setting.

Our Mission

The mission of Riverview Health Centre Foundation is to raise funds and awareness for Riverview Health Centre to enhance the care of its residents and patients.

Our History

In 1911, the City of Winnipeg Municipal Hospital was founded as a modern hospital for infectious diseases such as typhoid fever, diphtheria, smallpox and Tuberculosis. In the late 1950s, the hospital’s focus turned to long-term care and it built the first Day Hospital in 1983. In 1995, turn-of-the-century buildings were replaced by a new 388-bed rehabilitation and long-term facility, and the hospital was renamed Riverview Health Centre.

The Riverview Health Centre Foundation has been operating since 1997 as an organization of dedicated staff and volunteers who work hard to enhance the Centre’s ability to provide quality care and home-like surroundings to patients and residents. Donations and contributions to the Foundation provide funding for new equipment, special services, updated facilities, innovative programs, research and education.
