Personal Care Home Update:

We have been made aware that one health care worker at Riverview Health Centre within our Personal Care Home Program has tested positive for COVID-19.

Public Health, Occupational Health, and Infection Prevention and Control are working together to investigate this case, and follow up on any identified close contacts. At this time, there is no evidence of any exposure and therefore we anticipate the risk is low.  The risk is further believed to be low because the vast majority of the residents have received both doses of their COVID-19 vaccine. However, out of an abundance of caution, residents on the affected unit are receiving extra monitoring for any symptoms.

At this time, no Residents or other RHC employees are exhibiting symptoms. Nurses will perform symptom and temperature checks twice each day for the Residents on the potentially affected unit. We will continue to actively screen employees at the start of each shift.

At this time we will not be suspending designated family caregiver visitation, and our residents are not required to isolate in their rooms. We will continue to actively screen designated family caregivers upon arrival, and provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as per current practice.

With the recent change in the definition of an “outbreak” in Long Term Care settings, this single staff case does not meet the definition. However, we have increased symptom monitoring of our residents anyway, as stated.

We appreciate this is unsettling news for our Residents, Families and Staff of Riverview Health Centre. Please be assured that we have moved quickly to investigate this situation. The health of our patients, residents and employees is our top priority.

Hospital Unit Update

There have been no new reported staff or patient COVID cases on our program/hospital side of Riverview Health Centre.  We continue to closely monitor our patients, and will test for COVID-19 should anyone develop symptoms.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and understanding.
